Naxxramas - Video Tactics! Empty Naxxramas - Video Tactics!

Post  Cardinal Sat Dec 06, 2008 12:04 pm

Here's some videos that speak a 1000 words. They're from a website called Tankspot but they're designed for all classes. If you don't know Naxx that well, viewing is highly recommended.

These are the tactics we'll be starting with on Thursday but obviously it's fine to modify/change tactics when we're there.

I've posted them in roughly the order we'll be tackling the bosses. (Watch in HD if you want to see clearly!)

Naxxramas - Video Tactics! Empty Re: Naxxramas - Video Tactics!

The videos are very nice! Here's a bit of additional info from a healing perspective - feedback is welcome!

    General tricks

    • Use your /focus! In general, set the boss as your /focus before the fight. This helps you watch its health and gives you advance warning on long-cast abilities. If you're ccing (shackle, roots), set your target as your focus so you can see when it will break. It also gives you advance warning on throws, as the boss will quickly target whoever s/he's sending axes at before resuming his tankbashing.
    • Equip your best regen kit unless a fight calls for it - your heals are likely to be overwritten by the other healers, so make sure you have lasting power rather than raw healing power.
    • If you're on cleansing duty, equip Haste gear - it lowers your global cooldown so it lets you cast the next Dispel/Abolish Disease/etc faster.
    • Don't just go afk when you die - I like to use floorwarming time to learn what debuffs do and find out if decursing/dispelling can be tweaked.
    • Don't be embarrassed to ask dps/tanks to move to a better position if you can't reach them on early attempts. They're not psychic!
    • Check your buffs - make sure you have the right auras/blessings. Coordinate with other classes to optimise the raid (example: better if priests put up Shadow Protection than "wasting" a pally aura on it). Ask other classes to help you - a poison cleansing totem might be better than having to waste global cooldowns on raid-wide poison damage, and a mage can help you decurse saving you time.
    • A note on Shadow Protection: put it off on the raid wherever you meet mobs (even trash, like the Spider quarter) that shadowbolt or curse. It's only a little, but it can mean more resists, and more resists mean less healing needed. Bosses that require it are: Noth, Loatheb, Gothik and the Four Horsemen.

    Trivial bosses

These bosses are just plain tank'n'spank fights from our perspective, not much movement or untankable adds to worry about. Keep the tanks HoTed and topped up, and throw topups on raid members taking splash damage. Cleanse debuffs where applicable (check whether poison or disease curing totems are up). Stay at max range and move if the tank moves.

    • Anub'rekhan
    • Grand Widow Faerlina
    • Patchwerk
    • Gluth
    • Gothik the Harvester

    Not-so-trivial bosses

These do one or two tricks you need to be aware of.

    • Maexxna: Time your hots to heal through the AoE wrap (it lasts 6 seconds). Druids: Keep an Abolish Poison on the tank always. Target any wrapped members and HoT them up until they're released. If another healer is wrapped, don't lose focus on the tank - s/he need extra healing now!
    • Noth the Plaguebringer: Stay at max range and be quick to decurse (druids). Shackle/root the adds if you can, and stay alive in the adds' phase.
    • Heigan the Unclean: Don't cast any direct heals unless you're on the platform. Stay alive!
    • Grobbulus: Heal on the move! When you get the disease, you have 10 seconds to run out to a wall (avoid the poison clouds). Shield up and run out as soon as it wears off. Don't cure the disease unless the person is already in a safe position to have it removed - it triggers the explosion! PW:Shield takes the edge off the disease explosion - try to shield everyone who gets it. Druids can put a single Lifebloom up on diseased people - it will bloom to topup nicely after they take the big damage hit, and it's cheap.
    • Thaddius: Make the jump after phase 1! Stay on the right side according to your polarity, and stay near the dps - your polarity debuff will greatly buff the damage of dps on your side.
    • Instructor Razuvious: Set the Instructor as your /focus and make sure your raidframes show raid pets (so you can watch the understudies' health). Heal the understudies, and watch out for the daggers he throws, they hit for 6k initial damage and do about 8k damage as a dot over the next 4 seconds (14-15k damage altogether).
    • Kel'Thuzad: In phase 1 you won't need to heal much unless the little skeleton guys are killed on the raid - they explode. If you can, help nuke the little guys - they only have 1.6k health. In phase 2, spread out but NOT TOO FAR! Make sure you're within 30 yds of another healer - and make sure ranged dps aren't spreading too far either. If you can, keep the healers HoTed, and be quick to cast an instacast heal (WG/CoH/(Holy Shock?)) on anyone ice blocked - they receive 104% damage over 4 seconds so you need to be quick. If the ice block hits a melee group, you can have more than one player afflicted, so AoE heals are great for this. In phase 3, there is an OT - don't forget to heal them too.

    Tricky bosses

    • Loatheb: time your hots and big heals perfectly! This boss makes your healing useless for 20 seconds and only gives you a 3-second window at the end of those 20 seconds. Cast shields if you have them or 4+ long HOTs (15 second or longer, such as Renew or Rejuvenation) right after the silence kicks in or from 5-11 seconds. Keep shielding or cast 3+ short HOTs (7 seconds or shorter, such as Lifebloom) from 13-16 seconds, and when the 3-second warning comes up start loading up your biggest heal (Holy Light, Healing Touch or Prayer of Healing) on your target so it lands just as the 3-second healing window opens. Cast a flash heal immediately after that on someone else.
      0-----5-----10----15----20----5... repeat
      HEAL--lHoTs---sHoTs--HEAL... repeat
For a Druid, this fight will be: Nourish, Rejuv, Rejuv, Rejuv, Rejuv, Lifebloom, Lifebloom, Lifebloom, (warning) Healing Touch, Nourish (or replace HT + Nourish with a Tranquility), repeat. For a Priest, it could be: Flash Heal, PW:Shield, PW:Shield, PW:Shield, PW:Shield, PW:Shield, PW:Shield, PW:Shield, (warning) Prayer of Healing, Circle of Healing/Binding Heal if the priest needs healing?
What worked really well here: coordinate your healing targets with the other healers! Assign 2-3 dps to each healer and every 3-second window focus on yourself, the tank and those 2-3. This saves double healing on low-health targets.
Might want to save your pot cooldown to a healing pot!
    • The Four Horsemen: Watch your debuffs (=marks) - soon as a mark is stacked 3 times, move away from that boss. If you're on Thane Korthazz, hug the tank always (until the boss is down). If you're on Blameux/Zeliek, keep an eye on both "offtanks" and make sure they're topped. If you feel confident to manage your marks (never more than 3 from each!) you can stand on the middle platform to switch healing between both targets.
    • Sapphiron: Moving/positioning is quite important here. Make sure you stand close enough to heal/decurse the melee dps (if that's your task) - standing right behind them lets you reach possible stragglers on the other side of the dragon (but watch out for cleaves). Avoid the blizzards if you can, and move near the rest of the raid (don't clump up until the second ice block has landed!) when he takes off - you may be slowed by the blizzard and could miss reaching your iceblock cover.
