Epic gems (at last!) Empty Epic gems (at last!)

Do I remember right in hearing that someone had a whole load of titanium ore in the bank and nothing much to do with it?

If so, you definitely want to hang onto it...

Bornakk wrote:When the next major content patch launches we will be introducing epic quality gems and updating the perks for each profession. Please keep in mind that any of this information may see further changes before the patch launches.

The design recipes for cutting epic gems will be made available for purchase with Dalaran Jewelcrafter’s Tokens and there are several ways to obtain raw epic gems:

* Prospecting Titanium Ore
* Alchemy transmutations
* Purchased with Honor
* Purchased with Emblems of Heroism

Coinciding with the implementation of epic gems and the gain that Blacksmiths will receive through their perk from these new gems, we have gone through all of the perks in every profession and increased their values to match up accordingly.

Alchemy
* The Mixology benefits from Northrend elixirs and flasks have been increased
* Added a new pattern for Flask of the North, usable by players with a high alchemy skill. The recipe is purchased from the honor potion vendor. The Flask of the North increases your spell power, attack power, or Strength for 1 hour, and is usable in arenas. It is not consumed when used.
* Endless Healing Potion and Endless Mana Potion no longer usable in arenas. Amount of health and mana has been increased, and the cooldown reduced. They are still usable everywhere else.

Blacksmithing
* No changes will be made to this profession; it will continue to have the 2 additional prismatic sockets (which can hold the new epic gems)

Enchanting
* Values on Northrend ring enchants increased

Engineering
* Increased benefits from Hyperspeed Accelerators, Hand-Mounted Pyro Rocket, and Reticulated Armor Webbing glove modifications

Herbalism
* Increased healing from Lifeblood (Rank 6)
* Lifeblood now scales slightly with maximum health
* Lifeblood no longer affected by global cooldown

Inscription
* Master's Inscriptions increased

Jewelcrafting
* Dragon's Eye gems stat bonuses increased

Leatherworking
* Fur Lining values increased

Mining
* Toughness (Rank 6) provides more Stamina

Skinning
* Master of Anatomy (Rank 6) provides more critical strike rating

Tailoring
* Embroideries improved
I will make some effort to do the JC dailies with Torix and build up an advance stash of tokens - we can obviously try and coordinate to make sure we get all the most-wanted gem cuts ASAP! Smile

Sounds pretty awesome. I think I'll do a grind session for ore today and start doing the daily JC quest again.

Those alchemy buffs are sick :O

Mixology was already OP imo, as getting 2 hours from any elix or flask.

Lifeblood buff rocks too!

I wonder what the values are on the new flask, as increase of Str directly could be better than the Flask of Endless Rage for some class's.

Thanks for the info!

WTS Sta buff from Mining.
WTB Str buff from Mining.

Sounds like it's time to reconsider replacing mining with JC... or Alchemy, for a useful bonus...

At the moment, JCers' 3 dragons' eyes count as "whatever colour you need" towards the metagem bonuses, so you can stack your fave gem (Runed/spellpower in my case) in the good colour slots and put 3 DEs in the off-colour slots (yellow/blue to me) and still win all set bonuses AND keep the metagem active. But they said they'd nerf that as too many people were taking JCing by removing DEs prismatic properties.. The planned buff to the DE bonuses indicate they will go ahead with this nerf, but it's not implicitly mentioned in that post?

I think it wasn't so much that, as a recognition that the bonuses for JC were just "too good" - not only did you get a comparable lump of bonus to LW/BS/etc, but you also got the prismatic bonus, which was worth another few points (as it meant not having to stick in a hybrid desired stat/sta gem to get a blue, for example).

Not implicitly mentioned as it's not a change, basically, I think!

More stamina from mining = good for me!

Having to replace all my gems with epic versions = £££!

Oh well, it'll be nice to have something to work on I suppose.

Yeah, it'll be interesting (scary) to see what prices for the epic gems look like initially. Interesting that they appear to replicate the current Stormjewels power-wise... and obviously means that the more sockets a piece of current gear has, the more competitive it'll be in future, as you can whack yet more gems in there...

WoW.com reports epic cuts costing 5 tokens each (as I suspected!):
http://www.wow.com/2009/06/26/the-queue-the-holy-cow-its-a-crab-edition/#continued

There's 72 cuts, and we have 3 jewelcrafters (Bal, Tell and myself). I'll be saving my first set of tokens for some of the following cuts:

- Red socket: Runed (spellpower)
- Blue socket: Purified (spellpower/spirit) or Sparkling (spirit)
- Yellow socket: probably an orange cut: Luminous (spellpower/intellect), Reckless (spellpower/haste) or Potent (spellpower/crit).

I already have over 15 tokens, and I will start doing the daily more slavishly so I have enough to buy 6+ cuts when 3.2 comes out. So send me your shopping lists! I'm inclined to buy at least one tanking cut with my first batch of designs, as our tanks don't have a jewelcrafter to prioritise their cuts: most likely a Solid (stamina) or Thick (defense) cut. What red cuts do tanks favour btw?

Here's the list of cuts if you want a quick overview:

I really need to make myself do the JC daily more too - I think I'm at 13 or 14 tokens right now.

Will (slightly selfishly) grab the red Delicate (agi) cut initially, beyond that I'm actually probably open to what people most want - since buying an entire design for something like Shifting (agi/sta) which I only use one of anyway seems a bit overkill!

The three gems I will most likely buy at the beginning will be Bold (For Taq =p), Enduring (For Tanks) and Solid (As it will be a money maker). I'm open to buying what gems are needed the most and I'm sure between the JC'ers we have in WMD that we can grab most of the designs pretty quickly.

For me, Bold is the absolute prio.

After that, further down the list, comes Sovereign.

Those are the only ones I use.

edit: don't post stupid shit.

I had a look at the new Wowhead profiles (I love you) and dug out gem profiles for the murlocs. Came up with this list of cuts for the A-locs (mind, Gimi was in pvp holy kit and D was ret so I didn't count those gems):

• Red: Bold (STR), Bright (AP), Delicate (AGI), Precise (EXP), Runed (SPW)
• Orange: Glinting (AGI/HIT), Wicked (AP/CRIT)
• Yellow: Brilliant (INT), Rigid (HIT), Smooth (CRIT)
• Green: Enduring (DEF/STA)
• Blue: Solid (STA), Lustrous (MP5)
• Purple: Balanced (AP/STA), Shifting (AGI/STA), Sovereign (STR/STA)

I also had a look at Blobb (tank), Kayte (caster), Taminak (ranged), Rynar (healer) and Aldan (melee) to see if other gems are used and found another handful of cuts:

• Orange: Etched (HIT/STR)
• Yellow: Thick (DEF)
• Green: Vivid (HIT/STA)
• Purple: Glowing (SPW/STA), Guardian's (EXP/STA)

Edit: color coded according to which murloc JCer has confirmed they will buy that cut (example: green = hunter = Tell).

About last night's discussion and gem transmutes:

"Alchemy
Epic Gems transmutations now have a 20 hours cooldown.
• Transmute: Ametrine now requires 1 x Monarch Topaz and 1 x Eternal Shadow
• Transmute: Cardinal Ruby now requires 1 x Scarlet Ruby and 1 x Eternal Fire
• Transmute: Dreadstone now requires 1 x Twilight Opal and 1 x Eternal Shadow
• Transmute: Eye of Zul now requires 3 x Eternal Life
• Transmute: King's Amber now requires 1 x Autumn's Glow and 1 x Eternal Life
• Transmute: Majestic Zircon now requires 1 x Sky Sapphire and 1 x Eternal Air
"

That means that you can convert a Rare into an Epic gem (once a day) by rubbing an Eternal into it. Only exception is the green gem, which you need 3 Eternal Life for. Considering how rare Eternal Life already is, and how it will be needed more than any of the others, start stockpiling now!

I don't see this as the main way to get epic gems (due to the cooldown), more a way to convert stockpiles of rares into more solvent epics.

The flip side is of course that it's going to make you a green gem.

And I'm willing to bet that the number of green gems in use across the group is extremely slender; assuming you care about the socket bonus then nine times out of ten you socket red with a red gem, blue with a purple gem, and yellow with an orange gem.

Surprised that they've linked the blue with eternal air, would've expected eternal water there.

Eternal Fire will be the one to nab, methinks...
